GREAT LAKES, Ill. (July 29, 2020) Recruits don firefighting equipment to extinguish simulated fires during firefighting and damage control training inside the USS Chief Fire Fighter Trainer at Recruit Training Command (RTC). While at RTC, recruits receive hands-on training with equipment during applied labs inside their recruit barracks. They put their training into practice within a controlled training environment at the USS Chief where they fight a fire as a member of a hose team, discharge a CO2 bottle, and egress through a dark, smoke-filled room. Firefighting and damage control are one of the foundational skills required of recruits on their journey to become a Sailor in the world’s finest Navy. More than 40,000 recruits train annually at the Navy's only boot camp. (U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 1st Class Camilo Fernan)
