Aaron Kelley, commanding officer of the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2), Enlisted Air Warfare Specialist (EAWS) coordinator Chief Aviation Maintenance Administrationman Brad Shuhart, and Air Department Sailors prepare to hoist the EAWS pennant during a "hauling up" ceremony aboard Essex. Over eighty percent of Essex Aviation Sailors are currently qualified to wear the EAWS insignia, which authorizes Essex to fly the pennant. Essex is homeported in San Diego.
