CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. (July 11, 2020) Wyonia Chevis, left, principal of DeLalio Elementary School, Sgt. Maj. Carlos A. Orjuela, center, sergeant major, and Col. Curtis V. Ebitz Jr., right, commanding officer, both of Marine Corps Air Station New River, plant an apple tree at DeLalio Elementary School on MCAS New River, July 17, 2020. The school was named in honor of Lt. Col. Armond Hector DeLalio in 1965 and the apple tree was planted in remembrance for his 103rd birthday. Throughout his time as an aviator he was awarded two Purple Hearts, a Presidential Unit Citation with ribbon bar, an American Defense Service Medal with base clasp and star, an Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, a World War II Victory Medal and a National Defense Service Medal. DeLalio was killed on Jan. 5, 1952, at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Maryland, in a jet assisted helicopter take-off. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl. Karina Lopezmata)
