SAN DIEGO (July 18, 2020) Chief Damage Controlman Doug Siemens, left, and Command Master Chief Joe Hernandez, center, command master chief of the amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6), speak with Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (MCPON) Russell Smith about firefighting efforts to save the ship. On the morning of July 12, a fire was called away aboard the ship while it was moored pierside at Naval Base San Diego. Base, federal, and shipboard firefighters responded to the fire.
