151126-N-FO977-041 ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (Nov. 26, 2015) Rear Adm. Stephen C. Evans, commander, Naval Service Training Command (NSTC), greets recruits at the American Legion Post 208 here Thanksgiving Day. The Legion hosted Evans and 84 recruits as part of an annual Adopt-A-Sailor program. The program allows local organizations in Illinois, Wisconsin and Indiana, like Arlington’s American Legion, to adopt eligible recruits from the Navy’s only boot camp, Recruit Training Command (RTC) in Great Lakes, Ill., to spend the day off base. The organizations provide a Thanksgiving Day meal with all the trimmings and other assorted treats for the recruits, including allowing recruits to phone home.
