150522-N-ZZ999-077 NEW YORK (May 22, 2015) - Jennifer da Rosa, an instructor of practical application for the U.S. Naval Academy STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) office, explains key elements of science to an attendee visiting the STEM interactive exhibit at USS Intrepid, Pier 86 in Manhattan during Fleet Week New York 2015. STEM members travel all around the United States engaging and educating students and teachers while addressing an urgent national need for more young people to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. FWNY, now in its 27th year, is the city's time-honored celebration of the sea services. It is an unparalleled opportunity for the citizens of New York and the surrounding tri-state area to meet Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen, as well as witness firsthand the latest capabilities of today's maritime services. The weeklong celebration has been held nearly every year since 1984, and it is anticipated that nearly 1,800 Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen will participate this year.
