Craig Allen, United States Ambassador to Brunei, unveil a memorial plaque at the U.S. Embassy for USS Salute (AM-294) which sank in Brunei waters on June 7, 1945. Salute, commissioned 4 December 1943, was a U.S. Navy oceangoing minesweeper performing pre-invasion sweeps for landings in Brunei Bay, Borneo, when the ship struck a mine and sank in early June 1945.
