Makin Island Departs San Diego on Deployment
SAN DIEGO (Oct. 14, 2016) Sailors and Marines stationed and embarked aboard USS Makin Island (LHD 8) man the rails of the amphibious assault ship as they depart San Diego to begin their scheduled 7-month deployment. The Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group is made up of the Sailors and embarked 11th Marine Expeditionary Group aboard Makin Island, the amphibious transport dock ship, USS Somerset (LPD 25), and the amphibious landing ship, USS Comstock (LSD 45).
