160901-N-LD343-016 SAN PEDRO, California (Sept. 1, 2016) – Coast Guard Petty Officer 2nd Class Bradley Hackett, assigned to Coast Guard Base Los Angeles/Long Beach, begins food preparation for the TV pre-recording of the first cooking competition "Galley Wars" held on the Battleship Iowa Memorial during the inaugural Los Angeles Fleet Week. This year the Coast Guard competes with amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6), mine countermeasure ship USS Champion (MCM 4), and Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer USS Wayne E. Meyer (DDG 108). Fleet week offers the public an opportunity to tour ships, meet Sailors, Marines, and members of the Coast Guard and gain a better understanding of how the sea service support the national defense of the United States and freedom of the seas.
