160809-N-QW941-076 KUANTAN, Malaysia (Aug. 9, 2016) Lt. Steven Whelpley (center), a native of Fredericksburg, Virginia and an emergency physician assigned to hospital ship USNS Mercy (T-AH 19), reviews defibrillator operations during a Pacific Partnership 2016 advanced cardiovascular life support training course aboard Mercy. During the training, Pacific Partnership 2016 personnel and Malaysian doctors discussed guidelines for treating patients with cardiac arrest and other life threatening emergencies. This is the first time Mercy and Pacific Partnership have visited Malaysia. During the mission stop partner nations are working side-by-side with local military and civilian organizations in a search and rescue exercise, civil engineering projects, community relation events and subject matter expert exchanges.
