160626-N-YB753-035 MANAMA, Bahrain (June 26, 2016) Vice Adm. Kevin Donegan, commander of U.S. 5th Fleet, receives the National Defence Medal from French Rear Adm. Antoine Beaussant, joint commander of French Naval Forces in the Indian Ocean during an awards ceremony at the French embassy in Bahrain. The award recognizes Donegan's role in leading the integration of FS Charles de Gaulle's (R91) into operations against Daesh and Operation Inherent Resolve. This was the first time a French aircraft carrier took command of a U.S. task force, illustrating the two countries' shared commitment to security in the region, as well as amplifying the interoperability of the partners' maritime capabilities during conflict.
