171222-N-HL010-011 KEY WEST, Fla. (Dec. 22, 2017) Naval Air Station Key West Sailors, DOD civilians and members of Navy League Key West Council wait to welcome the crew of USS Portland (LPD 27) as the transport ship docks at the Outer Mole Pier on Truman Annex. Portland and her crew of 380 Sailors and Marines chose Key West for their holiday liberty before the warship continues on its voyage to its new homeport in San Diego. Portland, the Navy’s newest San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship, recently joined the Fleet, sailing from the shipyard in Pascagoula, Mississippi. NAS Key West is a state-of-the-art facility for air-to-air combat fighter aircraft of all military services and provides world-class pier side support to U.S. and foreign naval vessels.
