Spencer, center right, with his wife, Sarah Pauline Spencer, and the crew aboard The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Hopper (DDG 70), record a spirit spot for the 2017 Army-Navy game during the Spencers' visit to the ship on Thanksgiving Day. Spirit spots are recorded to show service esprit de corps as part of the 126 year football rivalry between the two services. The ship is deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of maritime security operations to reassure allies and partners and preserve the freedom of navigation and the free flow of commerce in the region.
