171027-N-MC499-046 BAYAMON, Puerto Rico (Oct. 27, 2017) Operations Specialist Seaman Zabrina Adorno, assigned to the amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge (LHD 3), surveys damage at her cousin's school during a family assessment. Kearsarge Sailors with family ties in Puerto Rico had the opportunity to go ashore and meet family members and assess the current relief support being provided and ascertain infrastructure information. Kearsarge is assisting with relief efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria. The Department of Defense is supporting FEMA, the lead federal agency, in helping those affected by Hurricane Maria to minimize suffering and is one component of the overall whole-of-government response effort.
