(Oct. 9, 2017) U.S. Marine Corps MV-22 Osprey aircraft assigned to Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron (MAWTS) 1 drop off Marines assigned to Kilo Company, 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines during Assault Support Tactics One (AST-1) in support of the Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course (WTI) 1-18 at Combat Town in Wellton, Ariz., on Oct. 9, 2017. AST-1 is a battalion reinforced air assault exercise, supported by fixed wing and rotary wing aviation fires, aviation delivered artillery, and mortars. WTI is a seven-week training event hosted by MAWTS-1 cadre, which emphasizes operational integration of the six functions of Marine Corps Aviation in support of a Marine Air Ground Task Force and provides standardized advanced tactical training and certification of unit instructor qualifications to support Marine Aviation Training and Readiness and assists in developing and employing aviation weapons and tactics (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl.
