170929-N-IO414-070 SASEBO, Japan (Sept. 29, 2017) Sailors assigned to the Avenger-class mine countermeasures ship USS Pioneer (MCM 9) toss messenger lines to the pier as they return to Fleet Activities Sasebo after performing calibrations and training. Pioneer is part of the Mine Countermeasures Squadron 7 and Amphibious Force 7th Fleet, which is training to enhance its capabilities of finding, classifying and destroying moored and bottom mines.
