170928-N-NM806-1029 DOMINICA (Sept. 28, 2017) Naval Aircrewman (Helicopter) 2nd Class Nicholas Glass, assigned to Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 22 (HSC 22), attached to the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp (LHD 1), prepares a resident for evacuation following the landfall of Hurricane Maria. Dominica residents are being evacuated to airports and then to the nearby islands of Martinique and Guadalupe. The Department of Defense is supporting the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the lead federal agency, in helping those affected by Hurricane Maria to minimize suffering and is one component of the overall whole-of-government response effort.
