Frank Thorp, right, hosts the event and selected the late Delbert Black and his wife, Ima, for the award, making them the first couple to receive the Lone Sailor Award. Delbert Black was the first Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (MCPON), and Ima, a member of the Navy WAVES (Women Accepted for Voluntary Emergency Service), is the First Lady of the Navy Chief Mess and an honorary master chief.
