170915-N-FV739-110 SAN DIEGO (Sept. 15, 2017) Chief Yeoman Tiffany M. Tamez, assigned to the future guided-missile destroyer USS Michael Monsoor (DDG 1001), presents Sally Monsoor with a shadow box in honor of her son, Medal of Honor recipient Master-at-Arms 2nd Class (SEAL) Michael A. Monsoor, during a chief petty officer pinning ceremony at Mount Soledad. Michael A. Monsoor died in combat in 2006 and was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor. The second ship of the Zumwalt class of guided-missile destroyers, USS Monsoor, was named in his honor and will serve as a multi-mission platform capable of operating as an integral part of naval, joint or combined maritime forces.
