170915-N-FR671-081 SAN DIEGO (Sept. 15, 2017) Sally Monsoor receives a chief petty officer combination cover in honor of her son, Medal of Honor recipient Master-at-Arms 2nd Class (SEAL) Michael A. Monsoor, during an honorary chief petty officer pinning ceremony at Mount Soledad in San Diego. Michael A. Monsoor died in combat in 2006 and was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor. The second ship of the Zumwalt class of guided-missile destroyers, USS Michael Monsoor, was named in his honor and will serve as a multi-mission platform capable of operating as an integral part of naval, joint or combined maritime forces.
