170908-N-VA474-009 WASHINGTON D.C.(Sept. 8, 2017) Captain Ed Cavallini, USMC (Ret.) was a part of the initial landing on Iwo Jima in 1945, and was wounded during the battle for control of the island on Feb. 21. He was awarded the Purple Heart. Cavallini visited the National Museum of the United States Navy during a trip to Washington, D.C. as part of an Honor Flight visit from California. The National Museum of the United States Navy is the only Navy museum to present an overview of U.S. naval history 1775 to the present.
