170907-N-TO519-209 U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS (Sept. 7, 2017) Cmdr. Gregory Freitag, officer in charge of Fleet Surgical Team (FST) 2, and Naval Aircrewman (Helicopter) 2nd Class John Malico, assigned to Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 22, help an evacuee onto an MH-60S Sea Hawk helicopter attached to HSC-22 as part of first response efforts to the U.S. Virgin Islands in the wake of Hurricane Irma. FST-2 and HSC-22 are embarked aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp (LHD 1). The Department of Defense is supporting Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the lead federal agency, in helping those affected by Hurricane Irma to minimize suffering and is one component of the overall whole-of-government response effort.
