170816-N-IK959-167 NEWPORT, R.I., (Aug. 17, 2017) Naval ROTC Midshipman 2nd Class Cole Yelich, an incoming junior at the University of Notre Dame, virtually cons a ship at sea during the 2017 Navy ROTC National Shiphandler of the Year competition at the Surface Warfare Officers School (SWOS). The three-day event consisted of using the Naval Seamanship & Shiphandling Conning Officer Virtual Environment simulators at SWOS and participating in several virtual reality conning and ship driving scenarios.
