(Aug. 17, 2017) Navy ROTC Midshipman 3rd Class Kara Dowling, an incoming sophomore at Princeton University and a member of the Navy ROTC unit at Rutgers University, looks through a pelorus sighting telescope to fix a bearing point on a full mission bridge during the 2017 Navy ROTC National Shiphandler of the Year competition at the Surface Warfare Officers School (SWOS). The three-day event consisted of using the Naval Seamanship & Shiphandling Conning Officer Virtual Environment (NSS COVE) simulators at SWOS and participating in several virtual reality conning and ship driving scenarios.
