170804-N-XC372-191 PACIFIC OCEAN (Aug. 4, 2017) Marines assigned to the "Checkerboards" of Marine Strike Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 312, high-five each other after cleaning out padeyes on the flight deck of the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71). The ship is underway conducting a composite training unit exercise (COMPTUEX) with its carrier strike group in preparation for an upcoming deployment. COMPTUEX tests a carrier strike group’s mission-readiness and ability to perform as an integrated unit through simulated real-world scenarios.
