170803-N-OI558-0640 PACIFIC OCEAN (Aug. 3, 2017) The Arleigh-Burke class guided-missile destroyer USS Sampson (DDG 102) fires its Mark 45 5-inch gun during a live-fire exercise. Sampson is underway conducting a composite training unit exercise (COMPTUEX) with the Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group in preparation for an upcoming deployment. COMPTUEX tests a carrier strike group's mission-readiness and ability to perform as an integrated unit through simulated real-world scenarios.
