(July 31, 2017) Sailors assigned to Landing Craft Utility (LCU) 1630, assigned to the San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship USS Anchorage (LPD 23), and Soldiers from the 244th Engineer Company of the Oregon Army National Guard, practice loading and deploying a High-Mobility Engineer Excavator (HMEE) over a landing ramp during a Defense Support of Civil Authority (DSCA) demonstration. The DSCA exercise is a combined effort between local emergency responders, the National Guard and the U.S. Navy, designed to simulate domestic response efforts, across all levels of government, to a catastrophic disaster.
