170719-N-ZW825-432 CORAL SEA (July 19, 2017) The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Sterett (DDG 104) fires its MK 45 five-inch gun during a naval surface fire support exercise as part of Talisman Saber 17. The exercise is intended to flex the “Up-Gunned Expeditionary Strike Group (ESG)�? concept using cruiser and destroyer assets to protect the ESG. Talisman Saber is a biennial U.S. and Australia bilateral exercise held off the coast of Australia meant to achieve interoperability and strengthen the U.S. and Australia alliance.
