170605-N-YG104-010 OKINAWA, Japan (June 5, 2017) The Whidbey-Island class dock landing ship USS Ashland (LSD 48) arrives pierside at White Beach Naval Facility to embark Marines from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (31st MEU). During the visit the ship will embark 31st MEU personnel, vehicles and equipment. USS Ashland, part of the Bonhomme Richard Amphibious Ready Group, is on a routine patrol, operating in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region to serve as a forward-capability for any type of contingency.
