170407-N-HU933-017 BREMERTON, Wash. (April 7, 2017) Soles of the soul...as part of Naval Hospital Bremerton's recognition of April as Sexual Assault and Prevention Month (SAAPM), 'Teal Shoes' were on display at the command on April 7, 2017. Each pair represents one of the 63 Naval Base Kitsap survivors of sexual violence - 54 women and 9 men - who decided to make a restricted or unrestricted report of sexual assault during Fiscal Year 2016. It is estimated that one in three women and one in six men will experience sexual abuse during their lifetime. SAAPM provides the opportunity throughout the Department of Defense, as well as in civilian communities, to focus on creating the appropriate culture to eliminate sexual assault by personal commitment from all service members at every level (U.S. Navy photo by Douglas H Stutz/Released).
