170406-N-BY095-083 PACIFIC OCEAN (April 6, 2017) The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Shoup (DDG 86) fires it's Mark 45 5-inch gun during a naval surface fire support exercise while underway for a composite training unit exercise (COMPTUEX) with the Nimitz Carrier Strike Group. COMPTUEX tests the mission readiness of the strike group's assets through simulated real-world scenarios and their ability to perform as an integrated unit.
