170322-N-DZ075-0265 WATERS EAST OF THE KOREAN PENINSULA (March 22, 2017) The Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) and the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Wayne E. Meyer (DDG 108) are underway ahead of USS Stethem (DDG 63) during a surface maneuvers exercise with several other U.S. and Republic of Korea Navy ships and submarines during exercise Foal Eagle 2017. The annual series of training events is designed to increase readiness to defend the Republic of Korea, protect the region, and maintain stability in the Korean Peninsula.
