170314-M-EU132-263 SIERRA DEL RETIN, Spain (March 14, 2017) Marines assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (24th MEU), along with the Spanish marines, prepare for an aerial extraction after conducting a vertical assault as part of Spanish Amphibious Exercise in Sierra del Retin, Spain. The purpose of teh exercise is to enhance interoperability and sustain tactical skillsets. The 24th MEU is deployed with the Bataan Amphibious Ready Group in support of maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations.
