170927-N-BD308-0190 DOMINICA (Sept. 27, 2017) Navy and Army aircraft and crews stand by on the tarmac of Douglas-Charles Airport as they prepare to evacuate residents of Dominica. Evacuees are being transported to island airports for transfer to the islands of Martinique and Guadeloupe. The Department of Defense is supporting the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the lead federal agency, in helping those affected by Hurricane Maria to minimize suffering and is one component of the overall whole-of-government response effort.
