Michael Wettlaufer, commander of Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 3, lands an F/A-18F Super Hornet assigned to Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 41 bearing the name of former naval aviator George H. W. Bush, the late 41st President of the United States, on the flight deck aboard the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74). The John C. Stennis Carrier Strike Group is deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and the Pacific through the western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
