181130-N-ID678-0022 ANNAPOLIS, Md., (Nov 30, 2018) The signed I beam is moved into place during the topping out ceremony for Hopper Hall at the U.S. Naval Academy. The practice of topping out a building with an evergreen tree on the peak is a Scandinavian or Viking tradition and is commonly used to celebrate the completion of the major structural components of a building. Upon completion, Hopper Hall will include classrooms, teaching and research laboratories, lecture halls, offices, multi-purpose space, an observatory, loading dock, and research and testing tank in support of the engineering and weapons labs. The construction is expected to be complete by September 2022. (U.S. Navy photo by Kenneth D. Aston Jr./Released)
