181114-N-YM718-195 ROTA, Spain (Nov. 14, 2018) Equipment Operator 3rd Class Calan Derue, assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 1, Alpha Company, operates an excavator to place underlayer stone along the shoreline onboard Naval Station Rota, Spain, Nov. 14, 2018. Derue is one of the few personnel licensed to operate this equipment in the Naval Construction Force. This project serves to stabilize the eroding shoreline and protect the base housing. NMCB-1 is forward deployed to execute construction, humanitarian and foreign assistance, and theater security cooperation in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations.
