181106-N-PW480-1352 ATLANTIC OCEAN (Nov. 6, 2018) Ensign Taylor Brunstad observes the Atlantic Ocean during an Integrated Maritime Portable Acoustic Sound Scoring (IMPASS) system evolution aboard the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Nitze (DDG 94). IMPASS certification recognizes a ship’s ability to support ground forces by accurately firing a Mark 45 5-inch/54-caliber gun. Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group (CSG) cruiser-destroyer (CRUDES) units participate in the first East Coast CRUDES Surface Warfare Advanced Tactical Training (SWATT). SWATT is led by the Naval Surface and Mine Warfighting Development Center (SMWDC) and is designed to increase warfighting proficiency, lethality and interoperability of participating units.
