181101-M-PJ332-108 TINIAN, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (Nov. 1, 2018) Twenty thousand gallons of purified water sit inside a portable bladder atop a pier in Tinian, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Nov. 1, 2018. Marines with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) and Combat Logistics Battalion 31 can purify more than 20,000 gallons of sea water each day to meet the urgent needs of the Tinian residents. The Marines are in Tinian to assist relief efforts in the wake of Super Typhoon Yutu, the largest typhoon to ever hit a U.S. territory. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible force ready to perform a wide-range of military operations across the Indo-Pacific region.
