181013-N-GI688-0008 NORFOLK (Oct. 13, 2018) Sailors heave lines as the Los Angeles-class attack submarine USS Newport News (SSN 750) moors at Naval Station Norfolk after successfully completing a seven-month deployment to the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations. Newport News was the third ship of the United States Navy to be named for Newport News, Virginia. The contract to build the boat was awarded to Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company in Newport News, Virginia on April 19, 1982 and its keel was laid down on March 3, 1984.
