180818-N-OY799-0027 WATERS SOUTH OF JAPAN (Aug. 18, 2018) Fire Controlman 2nd Class Maris Cox, from New York, stands safety as a Phalanx close-in weapons system (CIWS) fires during a live-fire exercise aboard the Navy’s forward-deployed aircraft carrier, USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76). CIWS is a rapid-fire gun capable of firing 4,500 rounds per minute that provides defense against air contacts.
