Mercado, hands his wife, Suzane, the national ensign he received during his retirement ceremony in front of USS Halsey (DDG 97). Mercado is retiring after 35 years of naval service. During his last assignment, he served as the director of maritime operations for the U.S. Pacific Fleet from September 2016 to August 2018.
