180726-N-SB520-4004 PEARL HARBOR (July 26, 2018) A landing craft air cushion (LCAC) attached to Assault Craft Unit (ACU) 5 launches from the well deck of the amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6), in transit to the amphibious transport dock USS John P. Murtha (LPD 26) at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam as part of Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise, July 26, 2018. The (LCAC) is a high-speed, over-the-beach, fully amphibious landing craft capable of carrying a 60-75 ton payload. Twenty-five nations, 46 ships, five submarines, about 200 aircraft and 25,000 personnel are participating in RIMPAC from June 27 to Aug. 2 in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California. The world’s largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity while fostering and sustaining cooperative relationships among participants critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security of the world’s oceans.
