180726-N-IK959-1097 GREAT LAKES, Ill. (July 26, 2018) Naval ROTC Midshipman 1st Class Matthew Mah, a senior at the University of Illinois from Wilmette, Ill., provides midshipman candidate Alex Yeung, an incoming freshman at the University of Illinois from Fairfax, Va., guidance as he prepares his “rack", or bed, for a compartment inspection in the USS Triton Recruit Barracks at Recruit Training Command (RTC). More than 65 young men and women entering their freshman year of the NROTC program participated in a two-week pilot program designed to provide standardized entry-level militarization and prepare midshipmen with a common training orientation. The indoctrination serves as a standard training launch point for the future naval and Marine Corps officers, and for the development of their character and professional competence.
