180726-N-CL765-001 OAK HARBOR, Wash. (July 26, 2018) Sailors assigned to Patrol Squadron (VP) 40 and Maritime Patrol Reconnaissance Weapons School inspect a Mark-63 Quick Strike mine in the bomb bay of a P-3 Orion aircraft during the conventional weapons technical proficiency inspection at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island. The “Fighting Marlins” of VP-40 are slated to be the last active duty squadron to transition from the P-3 Orion to the P-8 Poseidon. Over the next several months VP-40 will be completing the last inter-deployment readiness cycle of an active duty P-3 squadron.
