180716-N-MT581-2001 PACIFIC OCEAN (July 16, 2018) Royal Canadian Navy sailors assigned to the Royal Canadian Navy coastal defense vessel HMCS Whitehorse (MM 705) and members of the Royal Netherlands Navy unmanned underwater vehicle team recover a REMUS 6000 autonomous underwater vehicle and prepare to launch another, as a part of mine search and identification operations during the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise off the coast of Southern California, July 16, 2018. Twenty-five nations, 46 ships, five submarines, and about 200 aircraft and 25,000 personnel are participating in RIMPAC from June 27 to Aug. 2 in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California. The world’s largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity while fostering and sustaining cooperative relationships among participants critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security of the world’s oceans.
