180609-N-WE887-003 ADAZI, Latvia (June 9, 2018) Soldiers assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division parachute from C-17 Globemaster III military transport aircraft into Adazi Base, Latvia, June 9, 2018. The paratroopers departed Fort Bragg, N.C., June 8 and flew non-stop to the Baltics, with an in-flight refueling over the Atlantic Ocean. The soldiers donned parachutes and prepared equipment inside the aircraft to simulate a no-notice transatlantic Global Response Force (GRF) mission. The 82nd, as the nucleus of the United States Army's GRF, maintains an ability to deploy thousands of paratroopers anywhere in the world within 18 hours. Once on the ground in Latvia, the paratroopers conducted assaults and live fire exercises across multiple follow-on objectives.
