180528-N-GR120-0724 PHILIPPINE SEA (May 28, 2018) Ensign Lauren Kearney, the strike officer aboard the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Benfold (DDG 65), lights off pencil flares from the ship’s fantail after a promotion ceremony on Memorial Day. Benfold frocked 38 Sailors to the next paygrade and promoted 6 officers to lieutenant junior grade on Memorial Day while underway. Benfold is forward-deployed to the U.S. 7th fleet area of operations in support of security and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
