180505-M-WL813-0105 MARINE CORPS AIR STATION IWAKUNI, Japan (May 5, 2018) A U.S. Marine Corps F-35B Lightning II aircraft assigned to Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 121 hovers during a level III flight demonstration for the 42nd Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force during Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni Friendship Day, May 5, 2018. The flight marked the first time an F-35B Lightning II performed an aerial demonstration in the Pacific region. Since 1973, MCAS Iwakuni has held a single-day air show designed to foster positive relationships and offer an exciting experience that displays the communal support between the U.S. and Japan.
