(April 16, 2018) Quartermaster 1st Class Deena Taylor, assigned to the future amphibious transport dock ship USS Portland (LPD 27), receives a heartfelt thank you from a homeless woman during a community service event where Sailors provided backpacks filled with snacks and toiletries to the local homeless community. Portland is in Portland, Oregon preparing for its formal commissioning ceremony. It is the U.S. Navy’s 11th San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship. It is the third ship to bear the name USS Portland, however it is the first ship to be named solely for Oregon’s largest city.
